    Prolifik Spring 2010 Look Book

This is the latest designs from the McCully street phenoms, Prolifik.  It’s been a minute since we heard from them, but it was definitely worth the wait.  Along with opening up their design studio/printing area/retail spot to the public, they’ve been making moves, sponsoring Team HMC fighters Van Shiroma, Sadhu Bott, and DeJuan Hathaway (all of which will be fighting March 20th at X-1 World Events CHAMPIONS 2 at the Blaisdell, more info coming soon).

Along with that, they’ve been doing collaboration pieces with top artists, such as Eukarezt, Pancho Abalos, Shaun Castro, Philippe Anthony and KOAK.  They’ve also teamed up with fellow clothing companies Artist Proof and Poksai as an oficial distributor of the brands.

This Spring LookBook represents what’s next, but definitely not what’s ahead for Prolifik.  The brand and it’s creative minds are always cooking something up. If you only knew what was about to hit…

All these designs will be available starting this Saturday at the Art Wars event at Diverse Art Center.

Check out Prolifik on their website at http://www.prolifikprojects.com or become a fan on their Facebook.

    atypicalLIVING presents RIVAL Schools

    25481211

So, I guess I should mention that I’m running a little art event this Saturday, huh?

Here’s what I’ve been stressing about for the past 2 weeks: Rival Schools, an art show benefit for Diverse Art Center. This show will feature art displays from some of your favorite people, an “Iron Chef” style art battle on a medium not seen previously in an art show, a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament on a vintage Dreamcast, video game displays, and not one, but TWO dance battles. First is a 3 vs. 3 team B-Boy battle featuring Hawaii’s hottest crews battling for bragging rights and the atypicalLIVING team battle titles.

The other battle is a first ever freestyle/any-style battle. Any discipline, any style, one-on-one. The object of this tournament is to rock the beat the best. It’s like MMA, but for dancing. Can you bring it against another discipline? Show and prove.

This all goes down this Saturday night at the Diverse Art Center at 1024 Queen Street, in the Ward Business area, across the street from Office Depot. Entry is $5, $3 with a school supply donation. It’s an all ages show.

The show starts at 5pm, with battles to start thereafter.

Shouts out to the atypicalLIVING Creative Partners, Diverse Art Center, lightsleepers, First Lady, iKandy, Prolifik, Prototype, and redefine.

Shouts out to all the artists and for YOU! for supporting the arts and the future in Hawaii.

I hope to see you guys there, come down and invest in future awesome.

    DUNKXCHANGE this Friday

    photoshop-4

DUNKXCHANGE, the premier sneaker showoff/buy & trade event is making it’s return back to Hawaii.

This was scheduled earlier in the year, but due to some miscommunication, things got pushed back to this week. But, from last report, nothing seems to have changed with the lineup.  There will still be vendors and collectors showing off their wares to the public.  There will also be a special raffle for a pair of unannounced, special edition sneakers and you get to showoff your flyest gear.  What more could you want on a Friday night?

This all goes down this Friday night from 7-11pm at The Warehouse (The Black Warehouse) on Queen St., near Ward Center.  This all ages event is $11 at the door.  Be sure to look for the lightsleepers/prolifik booth.

For more info, check out DUNKXCHANGE.

Beat Root After Party (Happy Birthday Christina!)

Thursday’s gonna be a big day.  Not only is it the second qualifier for the Beat Root beat battle series, but if you’re just hanging out in front of Easy Music Center, wondering what to do…

… swing over to exclusive for a special Happy Birthday! party for iKandy and exclusive’s own Christina.  This is gonna be a definite birthday party, with free cake and Red Bull… art displays by CkaweekS and MyCryptonauts, in-store specials (since the store will be open after hours) and music provided by the talented Reyes brothers: DJ Liger and DJ Memoirs.  Word has it Liger will be bringing the downtempo and house for this one, so look out for an outbreak of Ultimate Dance Party.

This birthday party starts right after Beat Root lets out, around 7pm or so.  Also, at the show, you can scoop up the new Jaba One mixtape Poked In The Eye By Love, from Lofa.  Just look for him walking around.

For more info on this event, check out the exclusive website.

    atypicalLIVING Covers… Vision

This edition of atypicalLIVING Covers… presents a special event that was held at Bethel Chapel this past Saturday night. The event, co-hosted by Diane and groundUP Pirate jacie., was a special fundraiser for a Jesus Christ is Calling You (JCCY) mission to Uganda, where the country is still recovering from the military and political turmoil from the early 70s to the early 90s.

The JCCY missions trip will help benefit the children living there, by providing support for those going to school there, helping them better themselves and the economic structure of the country.

The event itself featured live art from numerous artists, including groundUP Pirates Shaun Castro and Ryan Greenly and a live photo shoot with Niel Norman and Aaron Rideout. La Pistil and Cassandra Rull. Music was provided by Stutterin Stan, Rhyme the Old Man, Living Proof, Friends of Adam, Dave Tamaoka and Canefield Hero. And the funny was brought by David Lee and In Your Face Improv (TEAL!).

The event was pretty dope, with tons of activity going around and food being served. It seemed more like a fun backyard party than an event (which was a nice departure from the (last) Next Movement, which will be covered tomorrow).

Also, the combined aprolifikalLIVING crew, along with DJ Liger have come up with the newest hotspot on the island. Check out Mister J: All Day for the story on that.

Check out the coverage shots on the atypicalFLICKR.

    atypicalLIVING covers… The Love Movement

This edition of atypicalLIVING covers… what could be Shaun Castro’s final art show in Hawaii. Shaun’s been homies with the atypicalLIVING crew since day zero, so we were more than happy to swing by and show the Love at the Love Movement. I’ve personally seen Shaun grow both as a person and an artist for darn near 4 years now. This show felt like the culmination of those years of growth. From the beginning sketches to the BFA show to all the groundUP events… and now, these wonderful masterpieces that will push the envelope for Hawaii art and Hawaii artists for the next season.

The gauntlet has been thrown, who’s willing to bring it?

Big ups to Shaun for throwing some dope pieces up there, including the ill Jesus Piece. Also, big ups to the Prototype Operatives for providing a dope spot and a chill atmosphere to hold such events.

Check out the rest of the Love Movement flicks at the atypicalFLICKR.

Also, check out some more flicks taken by RZone on the RZone Blog.

All the paintings are for sale, check them out at Prototype is any of them interests you. Also, the shirt that Shaun is rocking is for sale. You can pick up the Shaun Castro x Prototype collabo shirt from Prototype.

Trip The Lights: Beat Root GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP

    20080218-ttl1copyrc6.jpg

This is IT, you guys.  The final Beat Root (for now) goes down this Friday night, the 29th (leap year!) .  Four of the past winners (Opposite, Ques?, Lael’s Beats and Sentr1c) will be vying for the Grand Championship title with two of the most consistent competitors in the Beat Root series (S.T.U. and Humdrummin).  The title of Hawaii’s best beatmaker is on the line and thes guys will be giving it their all at rRed Elephant.

BUT!  That’s not the only thing going down this Friday night.  Oh no, because the lightsleepers have packed this night to the gills with an amazing array of performers.

    20080218-ttl2copykh0.jpg

Look for performances by Hawaii’s own and the Bay Area’s finest Joe Dub and the bulk of Canada’s hip hop scene with Factor, Kay the Aquanaut, Forgetfull Jones, Def3 and Kirby Dominant coming along side the ride.  Also performing are some of Hawaii’s illest, Rhyme Da Old Man will be throwing down, as well as Grip H and Juan P aka the Perfect Median and Showdown in Chinatown winners from the Hidden Habitats, Timer1 and DJ Bumblebee.

On top of ALL THAT, there’s also going to be art installations by The Starfish Guy, KOAK, Shaun Castro, Stanstill, Nicolai and a whole bunch more.

PLUS!  There’s also gonna be a blackbook battle based on the word “Primo,” sponosred by Art Primo.

I don’t know how they’ll be able to get everything in before 1am, but I’m hoping they do.  This is gonna be the greatest night in Hawaii Hip-Hop history.  No doubt in my mind.

Props to in4mation, XPRMNT, Prolifik, Skull Candy, Easy Music Center, Art Primo and Vitamin Water for making this all possible.

For more information, check out the lightsleepers website.

This edition of atypicalLIVING covers… features the Honolulu stop of WWE’s Road to Wrestlemania tour. The event featured fan favorites Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair, and Chris Jericho, among others.

The night was headlined by a WWE Title match between Jericho and WWE Champion Randy Orton and an Intercontinental Title Match between Carlito and champion Jeff Hardy. Fortunately, atypicalLIVING had correspondents out in full force to cover the event fully.
