    NoMasterBacks on the Hoku’s

the lightsleepers own NoMasterBacks will be representing Hawaii’s underground hip-hop scene tonight as they are nominated for the Na Hoku HanoHano award for best hip-hop album.  If you remember last year’s awards ceremony, Creed Chameleon was nominated but, sadly, did not win.

Hopefully NMB can pull out the win for all of Hawaii’s hip-hop faithful.  Like what KTC mentioned on the lightsleepers site, it’s not all about fame or money, it’s making sure that the right people win.  And NMB has been on the grind for the better part of a decade.  Here’s hoping they win.

You can catch the Hoku awards tonight on K5 the Home Team, starting at 730pm.

For more, check out NoMasterBacks online.

    Ceschi/Nabahe/NMB/KTC at Higher Ground Coffee

Get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown living and take a trip into Central Oahu this Friday for a special all ages show at Higher Ground Coffee Shop in Wahiawa.

Headlining this special event will be TOCA and Anonymous Inc.’s own Ceschi Ramos and Hawaii’s most outspoken and decorated MC/producer/visual artist, Nabahe.  They’ll be bringing Hawaii a taste of what’s been going on during the Year of the Gift tour that Ceschi and Nabahe just completed with Matre, Factor, and Verble, among others.

Also on the docket are lightsleepers NoMasterBacks and Kavet The Catalyst, Black Square’s Josh 86, and Black Empty’s Mikey Yeda.

All this goes down this Friday night at Higher Ground Coffee, located at 101 N. Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa.  Show starts at 8:30pm and keeps going until midnight.  $5 gets you in and it’s open to all ages.

Also, for those of you on the Big Island, Ceschi and Nabahe will also be throwing a show there on Thursday, May 29th at Emerald Orchid in HILO.  They’ll be rocking the spot with Brainstorming Weather, along with an emcee contest.

For all the Northwest heads out there (and I KNOW you guys read this… so start paying attention right about… now).

The lightsleepers crew is invading the Northwest territory with a show at Whitworth College’s HUB. The show will feature the lightsleepers own NoMasterBacks, along with the DJ stylings of Memoir(s), the beat manipulation of Sentr1c, the overall positivity of the chief lightsleeper, Kavet The Catalyst and a special performance from Spokane’s finest, Locke and DJ Parafyn.

This is going to be a true NoMasterBacks show, with all three members in one place at the same time since the album release party a while back. So, for all the Northwest heads, make plans for that road trip to Spokane this Saturday. The show is free and doors open at 8PM.

Props to wade, well.being and Temper T for being nominated for HIp-Hop album of the year at the Hawaii Music Awards.  While this is a special accomplishment, the real accomplishment is winning the thing.

And that is where you come in.

Worldwide voting for the Hawaii Music Awards has just started and you have until February 4th to get your votes in.  Vote for independent local hip-hop and a vote for NMB is a vote for lightsleepers, which also happens to be a vote for Hawaii.  So, vote early and vote often.

You can vote once per day per email address.  So, those of us that have multiple addresses (present company included) can vote more than once per day.   The link to vote is right here.  The Hawaii Music Award winners will be announced on March 15th.

Congrats once again to the NMB crew!

KTC x NMB x woes at Borders Ward

    20080111-borders.jpg

This, suffice to say, is a pretty interesting event.  The lightsleepers/PFoM crew will be invading Borders Books and Music at Ward Center.  Yes, you read that right, Borders Books and Music at Ward Center.  Will be hosting a free (yes, FREE) event this Friday night.  KTC and Bumble Bee will be spinning throughout the event and Wade and well.being from NoMasterBacks will be performing.  All the while, angry woebots will be live painting throughout the night.

So, get away from the usual Friday night haunts and hit up something different.  The show starts at 8PM, though you might want to get their early to avoid the lines and to find parking at Ward Center.
