MURS at Next Door

LA’s People’s Champion of hip-hop, MURS, will be performing at a special edition of GOLDEN this Thursday night at Next Door. The hip-hop heavyweight and one-half of FELT (with Slug from Atmosphere) will be performing his brand of LA hip-hop for the party goers of Chinatown.

Joining him on stage will be Flip The Bird’s own Creed Chameleon, DJ Packo, and the Golden resident DJs, Coop D’Ville and Durtie Rice.

This event is 21+, so keep the kids at home. Tickets are $30 and presales can be had at Prototype, Too Gruvs, and in4mation.

Uno Mas, Cookbook, Scarab, and Ahmad at Next Door

This Wednesday, check out the mother of all underground hip-hop shows hitting up Fall 2010 at Next Door. A super show consisting of LA Symphony’s Uno Mas & Cookbook, Living Legends Scarub, and Ahmad. Serious heat coming from the stage.

Joining them will be the Tunnel Rats SOJOURN and The Ill Hill Society. DJ Revise will also be rocking out the 1s and 2s all night.

This all goes down this Wednesday night at Next Door. Doors open at 8pm. $20 for the over 21 crowd, $25 for the 18-20. Thursday is Veterans Day, so there’s no real excuse not to check this out.

Check out broadcast this Wednesday night at Next Door for your weekly dose of live music. This Wednesday features a whole bunch of lightsleepers holding down the stage: Hidden Habitats (Omega Cix, Timer, DJ Bumblebee), INK, Ted, Ella Aki, and MattRatt holding down the DJing duties.

I HEART Hip Hop

This Friday and Saturday, there will be two special events going down that proclaim the love of Hip Hop in Hawaii.

The events, called I HEART Hip Hop, will feature Dim mak recording artist ROB ROY along with some of Hawaii’s finest. Friday night at Next Door will be ROB ROY with the Flip the Bird family (Tassho Pearce, DJ Jimmy Taco, and Creed Chameleon), along side Chinatown’s favorite, The Hot Muffins.

Saturday at 11am will be a special all ages affair at the Mililani Skatepark. ROB ROY, Tassho Pearce, Jimmy taco, Creed Chameleon, The Hot Muffins, Slapp Symphony, and harbor Division will be providing the sounds. Along with that are special art and skate displays, including appearances by pros Jef Hartsel and Chris Kays. Don’t forget about the tons of giveaways going down as well.

I HEART Hip Hop goes down this Friday night at Next Door and Saturday at Mililani Skatepark. Note: the Next Door show is 21+; Mililani Skatepark is all ages.

A Plus (Hiero) at Broadcast

Broadcast, Chinatown’s favorite Wednesday night hangout, is hosting a special edition featuring A Plus from Hieroglyphics rockin’ the Next Door stage. Alongside of A Plus will be Chinatown favorites The Jumpoffs and GRLFRNDS. It’s gonna be a fun time of live music on this Chinatown Wednesday night.

angry woebots at Next Door

Besides the usual chicanery that goes on during First Friday in chinatown, swing by Next Door to check out something truly unique.

Yes, you’ve probably seen woes paint elsewhere, but have you seen him paint 40ft. in the air? He’ll be right above the Next Door bar and throwing down a sick piece for everyone to check out.

Along with woes risking life and limb for dopeness, you also got some Bentos and Nicky Savage to keep you going for the rest of your First Friday chillin’.

The weather hopefully cooperates for a nice art crawl tonight, but, if it starts raining and you need to head inside, can’t do much better than seeing woes above your head and sippin’ on $2 drinks.

80 Proof

This isn’t a reference to that La Roux song. Apologies if I just got that stuck in your head.

By volume, vodka is 40% alcohol, which translates to 80 Proof. So, to celebrate the Creative Stimuli issue of Contrast (issue #4, for those keeping track) the Contrast family is throwing a combination party in Chinatown. Two venues full of awesome awesomeness.

At thirtyninehotel, there’s a live performance from Alt/Air, Kause and No Evil DJs attacking the 1200s, and Better Brands hosting a vodka tasting from 8-9pm (tying back to the title of the event).

Next door at Next Door is a sonic assault led by Clones of the Queens, Falcon Lord, and Shopping List. Jim Jones destroying the 1200s on this side of the event and the Drop Shadows helping that vodka buzz along with some dope visuals.

This all goes down this Saturday night at thirtyninehotel/Next Door on Hotel St. Event starts at 8pm and I guess I don’t need to tell you that it’s a 21+ thing.

I HEART HIFF Member Mixer and Open House

The Honolulu International Film Festival kicks off their Fall 2010 season with a special Members Mixer and Open House.  This event is open to the public and will give people who haven’t experienced HIFF an opportunity to see what it’s all about.  The key Visual Element of this year’s Fall Festival will be revealed, along with never before seen movies and 10 trailers of films that will be featured during the Festival.

Along with that, the public has the opportunity to meet and mingle with the HIFF staff, but to also participate in the numerous drawings being held, including tons of concert tickets, courtesy of BAMP.  Tickets include a pair of passes to the upcoming Blackstar show, Owl City, The Maine and Forever the Sickest Kids, Chevelle, and Ghostland Observatory.

Also being raffled off is the grand prize of a trip to the Seattle International Film Festival in June 2011. That includes airfare, hotel, and platinum passes to the Seattle festival.

Discounts for HIFF memberships will also be available for those who sign up for a membership during the evening.

J-Boogie vs. DJ-Zita at Next Door

Talk about something flying under the radar… totally didn’t find out about this until last night.

San Francisco DJ and producer J-BOOGIE will be bringing those dope Bay Area vibes to Hawaii tomorrow night at Next Door in a special collabo show with legendary SISTERS IN SOUND member DJ-Zita. Expect your Thursday night to get really chill and vibed out, especially with this combination of talent on stage.

Also joining them will be DJs A2Z, Dirty Rice, and NSK/Soul Clap’s own ESKAE.

This one is definitely one to check out, no doubt. NO cover, chill vibe and $3 drink specials, can’t really beat that.

Clockwork Prom

You remember prom night, right?  That horrible night 10 years ago.  You were HELLA nervous, not paying attention to your date, spilled punch on her sleeve and went home… alone.

Well, the time has come to make amends to that.  The Vertical Junkies are throwing the “Clockwork Prom” an event where you can (finally) make things right.  Come decked out in your favorite prom era steez, whether it be Back to the Future, Sixteen Candles, She’s All That, or even Prom Night (but I don’t know of anyone who actually SAW Prom Night…)

Anyway, come dressed to impress and dance to the music of DJ Durtie Rice, Jonah the Whale and Rise Up.

This all goes down this Saturday night at Next Door (43 N. Hotel St.).  It’s $10 for couples and $7 for those going stag and looking for a date there.  Both Prom Bids come with a framed prom pic, just like the old days.
