prototype presents “Me Against The World”

prototype presents the dopest art show the end the Summer right. “Me Against The World” features new work from Pancho Abalos, Newkon, Eukarezt, Janel Natividad, Spel Oner and Romali from San Diego. Along with new pieces, look for prints, stickers, munny’s and other toys from these dope artists.

Speaking of dope artists, DJ JABA ONE will be spinning on the ones and twos. He’ll also debut his latest mix CD at this event too.

There’s also a limited to 75 pieces show t-shirt that will be on sale during this event as well.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a prototype art show unless there was gonna be dope giveaways and a blackbook battle.

This all goes down this Saturday night from 6-8 pm at prototype Pearlridge. For more info, check out http://www.inspirecreativity.com

The annual lightsleepers Love Song Mixtape post

I know I posted some of these songs last Sunday on my personal blog, but I’m gonna do my own little mix again, as part of the lightsleepers tradition of rocking a Love Song mixtape for February 14th.

So, here goes my list. You can also check out the other lists being brewed up by LOFA, KTC, and Newkon.

    [clearspring_widget title=”Grooveshark Widget: Chameleon” wid=”48f3ef6c29317865″ pid=”4b739a128e582db2″ width=”300″ height=”400″ domain=”widgets.clearspring.com”]

Your Touch – The Black Keys: Of Course, I’d have to start it off with something rocking. This song, if you watched Zombieland, comes up at the romantic peak of the movie.

Nothin’ On You – B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars: Ummm… I just like this song haha. Those beautiful girls… they got nothin’ on you, girl.

I Wanna Be – Avant: Now, we getting serious. I think this song speaks to the lover in all of us. Especially those that have to prove a point to make sure that they won’t hurt the other like the previous person.

A Song For You – Donny Hathaway: See the above description and apply it to this song too. This songs hits al the right emotional points and should demonstrate the way how a love song should be sung. I love you so much, that’s why I’m singing this song for you, girl.

Pretty Wings – Maxwell: This song speaks to me like I have to let you go to make your life better. No better love than one who lays his best interests in the better interest of another. I love you a lot, but I know there’s someone that can love you better, so I want you to be free and find yourself, hopefully finding that person in the process.

Or it can just be a dope song. Whatever.

Slow Dance – John Legend: This song reminds me of just chillin’ on the couch with your beloved and just reminiscing about all the dope times, making more memories along the way. Life is about making those moments you remember, not really dwelling on the petty stuff.

Knocks Me Off My Feet – Stevie Wonder: “There’s something about your love, that makes me weak… and knocks me off my feet.” SING IT STEVIE!

Dance with Me – Intrigue: Everyone has that song that reminds them of 9th grade prom/formal/dance/whatever. This is that song for me. When listening to this song, imagine trying to dance with one of your close female friends, all while trying to stare at her forehead.

(They Long To Be) Close To You – The Carpenters: It’s Homer and Marge Simpson’s wedding song. How can you not think this is romantic?

A Little Bit – Drake and Lykke Li: For some reason, when I think of a particular person, this song plays in my head.

Pretty Brown Eyes – Mint Condition: When this song comes on, you know it’s time to get the slow dancing started.

You Make My Dreams Come True – Hall and Oates: Did you watch 500 Days of Summer? I feel the same way walking out of my house when I hear this song. I think any woman that can have that affect on me is definitely wifey material. Serious.

And that’s my mix this year. Hope you enjoy it with someone you love.

    Hypersquad presents: Renaissance

The 11th Annual Hypersquad Dance Concert is both amazing and bittersweet.

The amazing part is that 30 past and present choreographers have joined in and helped with part of the show. The other amazing part is that this is the first show under the direction of new Hypersquad directors Josh Ulep and Casey Kalahiki.  Yet another amazing part is this show consists of 25 different numbers and keeps it going for almost three hours.

The bittersweet part is that this is Jason Ulep’s (Newkon) final show for Hypersquad before he makes the big leap to Los Angeles.  The other bittersweet part is that the show is missing some key members due to HYPE 5-O making it on to MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew competition.

But, this will still be the amazing show that Hypersquad is known to put out year after year.

This year’s concerts take place this Saturday at McKinley High School Theater.  The first show is at 12:30pm with special guest Comedian David Lee getting things started at 12:15pm.  The second show starts at 5:30pm, with David Lee taking the stage 15 minutes before that.

Tickets are $20 at the door and this will be a packed house, so be prepared for the logistics and parking situations that could unfold at that time.

This will be an amazing show and tickets are more than likely to sell out, so get there early for best selection.

Culture Shock – Art Show feat. Newkon, CkaweekS, and Pancho

What happens when styles collide when Newkon, CkaweekS, and Pancho Abalos get together for an art show?

    Culture Shock.

Thankfully, that’s the name of this art show, as all three will be live painting this Saturday night at Prototype in Pearlridge.

Along with the live painting, there will also be a blackbook battle, with the word being revealed at the show.  Also, check out new pieces from the artists in question.

This all goes down this Saturday night at Prototype’s flagship location in Pearlridge Mall.  Show starts at 5pm and lasts until closing. So, swing by, get something hit up, grab a canvas and celebrate the blending of styles and cultures.

New Poketo Wallets from CkaweekS, Newkon, & Shaun Castro

This Thursday at Prototype, three of Hawaii’s finest will display their latest project: wallets.

Newkon, CkaweekS, and Shaun Castro will be on hand for the unveiling of their very own wallets from Poketo.  These wallets feature designs from the artists themselves, and will be available for purchase at the event.  Think of it as dope art that you can carry around… with some functionality thrown in, for good measure.

And, since this is a Prototype art event, you best believe there’s a blackbook battle going on somewhere in the building.  Especially since Lofa will definitely be back from his Comic Con adventure.

There’s no indication how many of each wallet they will be getting in, but rest assured that if you want one, you best be in the building opening night.

The event goes down this Thursday night at Prototype in Pearlridge.  Show starts at 5pm and keeps going until 8pm.

For more info, check out Prototype Ops online.

    NEW! Prototype tees

The Prototype fam has just dropped three new shirts, just in time for the back to school grind.  First up is a collabo shirt with two of Hawaii’s most exciting artists: NEWKON and KOAK.  If you remember, they recently held their “Unbreakable” joint art show at Prototype over the winter break.  This shirt is just the fruits of that collaboration.  Prototype also released new color schemes of the PType x angry woebots shirt and the KOAK PType handstyle.  You can check those out below the break.
