Think Friday’s are the only happening nights in Chinatown? Think again.

Tonight, the Mercury Bar hosts “SoulSpeak” a night of chill entertainment, good vibes, good freinds, and good spirits.  Featuring the musical stylings of Tiffany Ganotisi, Devyon, Blessd’Chil, and Asupaflyladybug, this looks to be the chill spot in the otherwise hectic scene.

DJs Liger and Memoirs will be holding it down on the 1s and 2s all night long.

SoulSpeak goes down tonight at the Mercury Bar (1154 Fort Street Mall #10) near HPU’s Downtown Campus.

Cover is $5 for the 21+ crowd and the doors open at 9pm.

    Swap and Bop Party

What the heck is a swap and bop?

Well, 808 Wonderland and Mercury Bar is ready to set that definition with the “Swap and Bop” party this Saturday night.  The premise is simple: come in with one outfit, leave with another. How does that happen, well, every few minutes or so, a siren will sound… when the siren blares, you must switch an article of clothing with someone.  So, if you see someone that has a cool shirt on, you have every right to swap shirts with that person.  SOunds fun, but, with me being a robust human, I doubt there will be many people for me to switch clothes with on that night.

If you run into that problem, never to fear, because there is also an immunity bracelet that you cna purchase to make sure that brand new jacket you bought goes home with you at the end of the night.

So, it goes without saying that you probably want to wear clothes that you don’t mind parting with.  As an added bonus, you can bring those extra clothes that you don’t mind parting with and donate them at the door to H-5 (Hawaii Helping the Hungry Have Hope) for a discount at the door.

The Swap and Bop party goes down this Saturday night at Mercury Bar, starting at 9pm.  It’s $10 at the door, $8 if you bring a clothing donation and $15 if you want the immunity bracelet.

    Strange Fruit at Mercury Bar

Chinatown’s newest jazz/hip-hop/soul/R&B fusion event is going down this Saturday night at the Mercury Bar.  Last we saw the Strange Fruit event, they tore it down with the Deadbeats… this time around, they’ll ahve the combined epic forces of Bless’dChil’, Maryanne, Tolua, AND! Rocket Powered Cadillac.

If that isn’t epic, then I don’t know.

Starting the night off, and helping to round the night out, is KTUH favorite, DJ Mr. Nick, who’ll be spinning that soulful, jazzy, downtempo steez you like.

This all goes down this Saturday night at the Mercury Bar, on the corner of Bethel and Chaplain.  $5 gets you through the door and this is a 21+ event, so leave the kids at home.

For more info, you can check out the Strange Fruit MySpace page.
