Continuing a trend of cool art shows on the Leeward side of the island, the h.ART show is looking for you to swing by and check out the cool art and music up in Makakilo.
Art pieces by Nabahe (& friends), Melani, and KOAK will be augmented by music from DJ Memoirs and Fat Soul.
This looks to be a fun night and a nice alternative for the hipster scene and those located closer to the Westside of the island.
This show goes down this Friday night at Maukalani Elementary on Panana St. in Makakilo. It’s FREE, so you can sue that cash on that Valentine’s gift. Big ups to NMB’s own WADE for throwing this all together. Check the YouTube for the full hype job.
This is IT, you guys. The final Beat Root (for now) goes down this Friday night, the 29th (leap year!) . Four of the past winners (Opposite, Ques?, Lael’s Beats and Sentr1c) will be vying for the Grand Championship title with two of the most consistent competitors in the Beat Root series (S.T.U. and Humdrummin). The title of Hawaii’s best beatmaker is on the line and thes guys will be giving it their all at rRed Elephant.
BUT! That’s not the only thing going down this Friday night. Oh no, because the lightsleepers have packed this night to the gills with an amazing array of performers.
Look for performances by Hawaii’s own and the Bay Area’s finest Joe Dub and the bulk of Canada’s hip hop scene with Factor, Kay the Aquanaut, Forgetfull Jones, Def3 and Kirby Dominant coming along side the ride. Also performing are some of Hawaii’s illest, Rhyme Da Old Man will be throwing down, as well as Grip H and Juan P aka the Perfect Median and Showdown in Chinatown winners from the Hidden Habitats, Timer1 and DJ Bumblebee.
On top of ALL THAT, there’s also going to be art installations by The Starfish Guy, KOAK, Shaun Castro, Stanstill, Nicolai and a whole bunch more.
PLUS! There’s also gonna be a blackbook battle based on the word “Primo,” sponosred by Art Primo.
I don’t know how they’ll be able to get everything in before 1am, but I’m hoping they do. This is gonna be the greatest night in Hawaii Hip-Hop history. No doubt in my mind.
Props to in4mation, XPRMNT, Prolifik, Skull Candy, Easy Music Center, Art Primo and Vitamin Water for making this all possible.
The groundUP Pirates are currently venturing towards their first ever Mainland art tour… and they’re gonna be all hands on deck.
The tour, which will span from Cali to New York, kicks off this Friday in San Diego at the Airport Lounge. Yes, the spot is called the Airport Lounge. No, it is not located at the airport.
Th groundUP crew will be live art-ing it up with Koak, Eukarezt, Pancho, Amy Wagner, Ryan Greenly, Shaun Castro, Efren, Kelli Murray, Ekundayo, KMDZ, Persue, Tim McCormick and many more.
The event is 21+, so be sure to have your IDs ready. The show is being held in conjunction with Jedidiah, Fallen, and thegluenetwork as a benefit for Stand Up For Kids, a national organization that helps out homeless and street kids. Enjoy a dope night of art and support an awesome cause.
The Prototype fam has just dropped three new shirts, just in time for the back to school grind. First up is a collabo shirt with two of Hawaii’s most exciting artists: NEWKON and KOAK. If you remember, they recently held their “Unbreakable” joint art show at Prototype over the winter break. This shirt is just the fruits of that collaboration. Prototype also released new color schemes of the PType x angry woebots shirt and the KOAK PType handstyle. You can check those out below the break.
Just as I’m checking out the new Chunk and Ape gear, the boys at Prototype pull out their new shop tees for perusal. The first design is the highly anticipated Prototype x angry woes collabo and the second is the remix of the Prototype handstyle tag by KOAK.
