    Pecha Kucha Night

    1uRH2G7Siq9fkqnyJCwzSJgio1_500

There’s still about an hour before it starts, but Pecha Kucha night is upon us again.

This goes down tonight at the Academy of Arts Linekona Center from 6:30pm-9:30pm. For those that don’t know, Pecha Kucha is a presentation format that gives each presenter 20 images to display for 20 seconds each. They can be random or interwoven with a story, but the premise is a fame – 6 minutes and 40 seconds at a time.

Got some big names presenting, including the homies from Bytemarks Cafe, Shakazine, Dept. of Public Works and Hawaii’s premiere indie filmmaker.

For more info, check out the Honolulu Pecha Kucha page.

Art After Dark: 15 Seconds of Fame

    event_image

This month’s ARTafterDARK will be focusing on the awesomeness of Andy Warhol and his famous claim that everyone has 15 minutes of fame.

Well, the fine folks at the Honolulu Academy of Art have taken that to heart and will be taking that claim as their theme with “15 Seconds of Fame.”

Aside from all the displays, Apple will be setting up a computer lab in the Kinau Courtyard, helping people create their own pop art masterpieces that they will email out afterwards.

Music will be provided by Zachary Shimizu playing alternative covers and The Nocturnal Sound Krew playing one-hit wonders from throughoout the decades.

As an homage to Warhol’s iconic Campbell Soup can painting, bring a Campbell Tomato Soup can or other canned food to ARTafterDARK and it will get donated to the Institute for Human Services.

This all goes down this Friday night at the Honolulu Academy of Arts at 900 South Beretania St.  For more info, check out Honolulu Academy’s website.

    Pecha Kucha Night v4.0

    pkn_4x6_final2

    Pecha Kucha. WTF is that?!?!?!

Well, for those of you who don’t know, Pecha Kucha is pretty much a speed show and tell for graphic designers, artists, and the like.  It’s a series of 20 images, displayed for 20 seconds each.  So, think of it as a 6 minutes, 40 second barage of imagery from some of Hawaii’s most creative minds.  The images tell a story, and, due to the nature of the time limit, forces the more chatty to speed it up and get through to the next person.

Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) allows the participant to experience the art and design, without having to sit through a boring lecture. It’s fun, fast paced, and allows for an opportunity to network, all at the same time.

This event goes down tonight at the Academy of Art Center at Linekona (1114 Victoria St.).  Doors open at 630pm.  The show is free to the public, though parking might be a problem.  Make sure you get there early enough to get a good spot.

For more info, check out the official Pecha Kucha website.
