Planet B-Boy at Academy of Arts

The rumblings are true: Planet B-Boy, the hit film that was brought to Hawaii at last year’s IIFF will be making a return to the islands, courtesy of the groundUP Pirates and the Academy of Arts.

The screening will go down this Friday night at the Academy Of Arts.  There will be an open b-boy floor, for those interested, and a DJ to keep things moving.  There’s also word that writer/producer/editor/local boy Benson Lee will also be in attendance that night, so be prepared to talk shop with the man.

All this goes down 6pm this Friday night at the Academy of Arts on South Beretania St.

For more info on the movie, check out Planet B-Boy online.

Imagination at the O Lounge this Friday

groundUP invades the O Lounge with Imagination: a collaborative event that mixes music, art, dance and poetry in one awesome event.  The roster of groundUP artists is mind boggling, as darn near most of your favorites will be there for the event.  Also, there’s a number of other things going on as well, including a Lion Dance and University Drumline collabo that sounds intriguing on paper and Youth Speaks throwing down on the mic.

This all goes down this Friday night at the O Lounge.  Doors open at 6:30pm and is open to those 18 and over.  $8 with the flyer, $10 at the door.

    groundUP website now LIVE!

    picture-1.png

After a long wait, the official groundUP Pirates web page has just landed on the collective consciousness of the unsuspecting art public.  Yeah, I just used all those words in succession.  Nice, huh?

    groundUP Pirates present “Invisible Giants”

    groundUP Pirates present

Just when you thought that was it for the year…

…the groundUP Pirates crew comes back for another dope art show.

The usual suspects are back for one last go-round for 2007. The amazing collection of audio, visual, and fashion is back, as well as the live mural. But, that’s where the similarities end. The Invisible Giants will feature the first team mural battle. Three teams full of Hawaii’ best will be battling it out for supremacy and bragging rights as the best team.

To list down the entire teams would just not be doing justice to how dope this battle will be. Just check the flyer for the teams and be prepared for an amazing mural to come out from all three teams.

Also, the amazing amount of people performing and doing displays would also be too much for words. Just know that this is the art event to hit up. I honestly don’t you could get much better than this lineup.

Invisible Giants goes down this Saturday night at the Chinatown Courtyard at 1116 Smith Street. Doors open at 7PM and rocks until midnight. $7 gets you in the door, $5 if you got a groundUP shirt, a collar or a skirt on.

For more info, check out the groundUP myspace.
