heARTists at Diverse Art Center

Diverse Art Center will be hosting a special two day art event called “heARTists.” This one will feature monster art installations from Shaun Castro, Pancho abalos, Remi Mead, and Takumi10. Also, there will be select vendors on hand with some of the more unique Christmas gifts you can find anywhere.

BBoy City Hawaii

One to the biggest jams in Hawaii this year goes down this Saturday and Sunday. BBoy City will be bringing the massive to both Diverse Art Center and Fresh Cafe.  Expect the dancing to be hot and heavy with a crew v. crew battle, a 1 vs. 1 battle and the always fun all styles battle.  Judges from around the country will be on hand, including Palmer from Havikoro, Omar from Jiveturkeys/Zulu Kings, and Milky from MastersOfMayhem/Mind 180. They’ll be joined by 808 Breaker’s Drenz and Waikiki BBoy’s own Kelroc.

Bles One and Une join atypicalLIVING’s own DJ enJAY on the 1s and 2s throughout the night. This one looks to be pretty crazy, so clear your schedule out for this.

The two day event begins Saturday at Diverse Art Center with the Preliminaries and Trade Show.  That one is $15 to get in and starts at 2pm.  The Finals/Main Event goes down on Sunday from 3pm-1030pm at Fresh Cafe.  That one is $10 to get in.

Their annual aerosol art battle takes place this Saturday and will feature the best of the best duking it out for bragging rights and prizes.  With a hosts of guest judges, an MC Battle, a BBoy crew battle, Canvas and Aerosol competitions, and a writers bench, this looks to be quite the all-encompassing event.

This all goes down at the Diverse Art Center (1024 Queen St., behind Office Depot) this Saturday from 11am-10pm. $10 gets you in the door.

“The Exhibition” at Diverse Art Center

It’s 2010 and you haven’t hit up a B-Boy Jam yet?

Well, this Saturday is your lucky night, as the fine folks at Diverse Arts Center will be throwing down a special event called “The Exhibition.”

There’s the traditional 3 vs 3 B-Boy tournament, judged by Rawkus Jr., Eyce Wun, and killakrez.  Along with the tournament, there’s also gonna be two 5 round exhibition battles, featuring Rawkus Jr. vs Jon Squared and RAWS vs. KevRock.

B-Boy Yellow will be holding down the hosting duties along side atypicalLIVING Resident DJ, DJ enJAY.

This all ages event is $7 at the door ($6 w/a flyer) and the door opens at 6pm.  Diverse Arts Center is located at 1024 Queen St. near Ward Center, behind the movie theatre and Office Max/ Nordstrom Rack.

atypicalLIVING Covers… Rival Schools

atypicalLIVING Creative Partners presented a special art show at Diverse Art Center near Ward Warehouse called “Rival Schools.”

This show, a fundraiser for the Diverse Art Center, featured a video game battle, a 3-on-3 BBoy team battle and a special 1-on-1 freestyle, anystyle battle. Also featured were the artwork of the atypicalLIVING Creative Partners and a special live art exhibition featuring Shaun Castro, Philippe Anthony, RZone, and dainzers.

All in all, it was a pretty dope event that raised money for a very worthy cause. Big ups to all the sponsors, artists, dancers, and to Niki from Diverse Art Center for allowing us to rock the spot. I’m pretty sure you’ve seen more coverage out there, but this was straight from my camera that I was carrying with me the whole night.

atypicalLIVING presents RIVAL Schools

So, I guess I should mention that I’m running a little art event this Saturday, huh?

Here’s what I’ve been stressing about for the past 2 weeks: Rival Schools, an art show benefit for Diverse Art Center. This show will feature art displays from some of your favorite people, an “Iron Chef” style art battle on a medium not seen previously in an art show, a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tournament on a vintage Dreamcast, video game displays, and not one, but TWO dance battles. First is a 3 vs. 3 team B-Boy battle featuring Hawaii’s hottest crews battling for bragging rights and the atypicalLIVING team battle titles.

The other battle is a first ever freestyle/any-style battle. Any discipline, any style, one-on-one. The object of this tournament is to rock the beat the best. It’s like MMA, but for dancing. Can you bring it against another discipline? Show and prove.

This all goes down this Saturday night at the Diverse Art Center at 1024 Queen Street, in the Ward Business area, across the street from Office Depot. Entry is $5, $3 with a school supply donation. It’s an all ages show.

The show starts at 5pm, with battles to start thereafter.
