    80 Proof

This isn’t a reference to that La Roux song. Apologies if I just got that stuck in your head.

By volume, vodka is 40% alcohol, which translates to 80 Proof. So, to celebrate the Creative Stimuli issue of Contrast (issue #4, for those keeping track) the Contrast family is throwing a combination party in Chinatown. Two venues full of awesome awesomeness.

At thirtyninehotel, there’s a live performance from Alt/Air, Kause and No Evil DJs attacking the 1200s, and Better Brands hosting a vodka tasting from 8-9pm (tying back to the title of the event).

Next door at Next Door is a sonic assault led by Clones of the Queens, Falcon Lord, and Shopping List. Jim Jones destroying the 1200s on this side of the event and the Drop Shadows helping that vodka buzz along with some dope visuals.

This all goes down this Saturday night at thirtyninehotel/Next Door on Hotel St. Event starts at 8pm and I guess I don’t need to tell you that it’s a 21+ thing.

    3 Deep

Contrast magazine is celebrating the launch of their 3rd issue this Saturday night with “3 Deep,” a music festival spanning three of Hawaii’s best Chinatown spots: The Loft, Next Door and Manifest.

The party starts at 7pm and will span across the three venues until 2am. This coincides with the 3rd Issue being called “The Downtown Issue.”

At Manifest, there’s an art display by DALEK and Kristen Lee Lim, with live music from Kimie Miner and the Super Handsome DJ’s crew.

The Loft will host Maui’s own, The Throwdowns, along with one of Hawaii’s best, The Jumpoffs.

Next Door will feature a showcase of Hawaii’s top bands, including Girlfriends and Clones of the Queen. DJ’s Kause 1 and Marika will be keeping the vibe going throughout the night.

Headlining the show and the entire event will be The Jumpoffs. Not only are they the featured band in the 3rd Issue of Contrast Magazine, but they are also releasing their debut, self-titled album at Next Door.

The bands will be performing at alternating times, so everyone has a chance to venue hop and check out each band throughout the night.

This all goes down this Saturday night in Chinatown. For more info, check out Contrast Magazine at http://www.ContrastMagazine.com

HOV and Oates mixtape by Bad News

Big ups to the Zen and the Contrast Mag crew for this one.

This is a mashup mixtape thrown together by two of Hawaii’s own.  The mashing up is done by Bad News and the songs are mixed together by Durtie Rice.

The mashups are kinda clean and definitely stand out in the sea of Jay-Z mashup mixtapes.

You can download the mixtape here.

    The Get Go

Contrast Magazine is a new piece on the scene, dedicated to the archiving and preservation of our local music lifestyle.

But, don’t get it twisted, this isn’t some hula skirts and tiki hut steez, this is about YOUR lifestyle.  The kind of stuff we cover here on atypicalLIVING and the kind of stuff that you’re into.  Which is why you’re reading us, right?

Anyway, this party is the launch party for Contrast Magazine and we’re just as sotked about it as you are.  In fact, this event has the dopest lineup of artists I’ve seen in a long time.

DJs Toad One, Jim-Browskee, Kavet The Catalyst, Kause, and Eskae will be spinning the jams all night long while Anti-Social, The Malcognitas, Tassho Pearce and a rare performance by Timer & Omega Cix round out the live music section.

This party is guaranteed to go off, so make you that you 21+ folks get in and RSVP, so you don’t have to worry about paying a cover.  You can RSVP at rsvp@contrastmagazine.com

This all goes down this Friday night at thirtyninehotel.  The party starts at 8pm and keeps rocking until people decide to leave.

For more info, check out Contrast Magazine.
