    Beat Root 3/6 This Thursday

    br09-31

    Let’s do this again.

So, after a scheduling error last week put the brakes on Beat Root, the lightsleepers are back with another attempt.

This is Beat Root 3 of 6 for 2009. The winner of this battle will advance on to the Grand Championship round, along with T.K.O. and Ely. The qualifiers for the Grand Championship round will also have the chance to submit two beats to Stones Throw to be used on an upcoming Aloe Blacc mixtape next year.

The stakes are high, so don’t miss out on the battle.

The event goes down this Thursday at the Easy Music Center on King St. Battle starts at 5pm.

Beat Root 2009 3/6 – POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT WEEK

    br09-3

UPDATE: just got a call from @Lofa, apparently, there wa sa scheduling conflict, so Beat Root 3/6 has been POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT WEEK: SEPTEMBER 24TH.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    _Mister J: All Day.

After a successful Round 2 last month (with atypicalLIVING serving as guest judges), T.K.O. and Ely are the two competitors in the Beat Root Grand Championships.

This month will feature (hopefully) six new entrants, all vying for a spot in the Grand Championships.

The stakes have been raised, as now ALOE BLACC and DJ EXILE from Stones Throw Records will select at least two beats from the six winners of the Beat Root qualifiers to use on an upcoming mixtape.

It’s a great opportunity for some Hawaii producers to go get some shine.

This month’s battle will take place today at Easy Music Center on King St. The battle starts promptly at 5pm.

For more, check out the lightsleepers.

The second round promises to be just as entertaining.

The Second Round of the Beat Root producers battle series will take place this Thursday afternoon from 5-7pm at Easy Music Center’s King St. location

atypicalLIVING covers: Beat Root Grand Championship

    beatrootapril09-34

Shouts out to Laels Beats for bringing the title home last night. The Beat Root veteran won the prestigious Beat Root Grand Championship at The Loft, joining Ques? as the only winners of the King of Kings battle. Laels came back after being defeated by The Hap in the first round, beating Kazu the Gonzo and OSNA in the Sudden Death Round. beating TKO in the Semis and the taking out DJAH in a very heated Final Round.

Might have to double check with Kavet, but I don’t recall someone coming from the Sudden Death Round to win the whole thing.

And Laels DESTROYED with his last beat. This amazing mash up of soul, hip-hop and Drum & Bass (!) that was simply genius.

So, big ups to Laels for winning the battle and to all the sponsors: Easy Music Center, Slapp Symphony, lightsleepers, genuineHI, atypicalLIVING (hey, that’s us!), FuManChu Clothing, in4mation, Prolifik, Redefine, Contrast Magazine and Incase.

    Beat Root Grand Championships

    beatrootfinalsjpg

    This is the week!

The lightsleepers present Hawaii’s PREMIER Upper Echelon Producer Battle, Beat Root.  This round is the Grand Championship round, where the best of the best battle each other for supremacy on the beats.  The subplot to this battle is the fact that it’s essentially laptops vs. MPCs for this one.

Laels Beats, The HAP. TKO, DJAH, Kazu The Gonzo, and Osna will battle it out to see who is the best producer of them all.  The winner of this battle will join Ques? as the only producers rocking the crown of Beat Root Grand Champion.

Along with the beat battle, NoMasterBacks, Slapp Symphony, Newjacks, Creed Chameleon, Rhyme Da Old Man, Bless’DChil, and Nabahe will grace the crowd with performances.

In between all that, Philippe Anthony will be rocking out the live painting steez and Oliver Twist, Observ, KTC, and Joe Gosalvez will be rocking the wheels of steel.

This epic event goes down this Saturday night at 9pm at the Loft (115 N. Hotel St.).  Tickets are $7 at the door, but you can get them for $5 presale from Easy Music Center, in4mation, or Eles Hawaii. The first 100 paid people through the door get a copy of the Beat Root Samplayer, a collection of tracks from Beat Root competitors past and present.

Or, you could win the tickets from atypicalLIVING.  Details forthcoming.

For more info, check out the lightsleepers.

    Beat Root 6/6

    br6-6

This is the last chance for Hawaii producers to get into the 2009 edition of the Beat Root King of Kings battle later this year.

If you’ve followed the battles the past couple of months, you would know that only the best have come up and made this the showcase of Hawaii’s champions. In fact, thsi series has been overrun by the newcomers, as the only one that will be participating in this year’s King of Kings battle that was there last year is Laelz Beats.

This round will feature more of the newest sounds from Hawaii’s latest producer finds.  Dubyoues, DJ Cozy, OSNA, Anthouse, Ely, and DJ KDogg will be competing for the last spot in the big battle.

This all goes down this Thursday afternoon at the Easy Music Center on King St.  The battle starts at 5pm and ends promptly at 7pm.  For more, check out the lightsleepers site.
