The Inauguration of our 44th President

    homegrownpresidentblog

This flick is courtesy of Fitted Hawaii. Not quite sure if this shirt is real or not, but if it is, you know where to get it.

The Inauguration is going down at 10am EST, which makes it about 5am here in Hawaii.  If you’re gonna be up that early, you can check out the News Channels giving their live coverage. But, if you can’t get next to a TV, you can check out KGMB9’s coverage of the inauguration on the KGMB9 website. Also, you can follow the live coverage on Twitter.

So, congratulations to our 44th President, our 1st black president, and our 1st president from Hawaii.  This is gonna be an interesting 4 years.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day

You know, it’s a great time to be alive.  The weather in Hawaii is AWESOME.  The most pivotal moment in Amrican history takes place tomorrow and today is a great time to look back to our past.

Watch both of these clips, one after the other (both are 17 minutes long) and feel inspired that there is hope for us yet.

The FULL Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have A Dream” speech (17:28- skip to 9:50 if you wanna get to the meat of the speech)

The FULL Barack Obama Victory Speech (17:00- I’m not even gonna tell you where to skip to, because every American should watch this whole thing at least once.)

Watching both of these back to back will give you the chills.  Good chills, but chills nonetheless. Bundle up, America, change is coming.

Dr. King’s dream becomes a beautiful reality tomorrow.

    Yes, we all did.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

    Obama x Z-Trip x Obey

The Obama Ohana extends far beyond the state of Hawaii.  Take, for example, this mixtape.

Put together by world-renowned DJ Z-Trip (also an Island favorite), this mix has made it’s way around the country in live form, making it’s debut at many of the Z-Trip x Obey/Shepard Fairey fundraisers for the Barack Obama campaign called “The Party For Change.”

Now, that mix got recorded and has been put online for everyone to download and get involved.

Z-Trip has put up two versions: the mix he played at the events and a radio-friendly mix that is suitable for broadcast.

With the election coming up in a couple of months and everything being thrown into chaos right now, this is the most important elction that this generation will face.  The fate of our country relies on this election and I think it’s important for everyone to get involved and get educated about the issues, whether it be for the Presidential election, the Mayoral election or even down to the state senate and city council levels.

To start getting involved and to download this mix, you can hit up http://www.djztrip.com/obama

NOW, DO NOT TAKE THIS AS AN ENDORSEMENT FROM atypicalLIVING FOR ONE CANDIDATE OVER THE OTHER.  THIS IS JUST TO HELP GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE ELECTION.  WE’RE NOT HERE TO TELL YOU WHICH WAY TO VOTE, BUT TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE TOPICS AND MAKE THE BEST DECISION YOU CAN.
