    Fashion Night Out

Ala Moana Center presents another installment of Fashion’s Night Out.

Fashion events at Ala Moana have always been staples of new looks and great taste, but this Night Out adds a little something.  Sure, you have the trunk sows, the cocktail receptions, the runway shows, and the always awesome “gift with purchase.” But, the dope part about this event is the wardrobe donations.

Dress For Success Honolulu is an organization that takes gently used suits and career staples and helps out those less fortunate to get to where they need to go.

Along with that, there’s a fashion tote involved that one can receive when turning in $75 in receipts.

This all goes down this Friday night at 5pm at Ala Moana Center. For more info, check out http://www.alamoanacenter.com

Shop a Lea this week at Ala Moana

Ala Moana’s annual Spring shopping event is back for 2010.  Shop a Lea is a week long shopping extravaganza, incorporating the shops at Ala Moana and exclusive in-store events and offers.  Special “shopping serenade” concerts, Runway shows at Centerstage and in-store happenings pepper the non-stop shopping.

If last year was any indication, the shopping deals should be insane.  This starts today and goes on until the 28th.

To get the full list of everything that’s going on, check out the Shop a Lea website.

Ala Moana Center Keepsake Postcard and Stamp

    Picture 2

Did you know Ala Moana Center turned 50 this year?

    Yeah, me neither.

But, to correspond with the celebration that’s been going on and will continue to go on for the rest of the month, you can scoop up this free postcard commemorating the occasion. For a $1, you can even get the postcard with the appropriate postage cancellation stamp.

This Friday, the Post Office will be rocking the stamps from 4-6pm on Centerstage. They’ll stamp anything with the appropriate First Class postage with the cancellation stamp, even some past due bills. But, you probably wouldn’t want to do that.

For more info on the 50th Anniversary celebrations, check out the Ala Moana website.

    NEW! Prototype – Ala Moana

    IMG_1222

Got a chance to swing by the newest retailer at Ala Moana, Prototype.

The shop is clean, with a very crisp aesthetic, all the way down to the custom speaker enclosures.

They still got the same dope stuff you’d expect from the Prototype crew, including some new shirts. If you get a chance, try and find the dope looking PRIDE x PType logo tee. Yeah, you read that right.

They just opened up in the Nordstrom wing, next to Club Monaco (which is pretty clutch because I dig Club Monaco stuff). SO, swing by and tell Gav and Chris, “hello!”

The same vibe and the same great stuff that you expect from Bruce and Erica is now in a slightly more convenient location for the masses to get to.

But, don’t just take my word for it, check out this article and video from KITV4 News.

Check out split obsession’s new location in the heart of Ala Moana, street level, ocean side, next to Goma-Tei, Champs Sports, Game Stop, and Assaggio.

atypicalLIVING covers… the Nordstrom wing of Ala Moana

    img_4774.jpg

So, if you were paying attention last week, we noted that Ala Moana was launching a weke-long shopping event called “Shop A Lea” culminating in the grand opening of the newest anchor store of Ala Moana: Nordstrom.

True to it’s mainland couterpart, this Nordstrom is huge, complete with a live piano player, an XBOX 360 in the men’s dressing room and countless items for the fashinistas to go nuts over.  Of course, the selection inside of Nordstrom definitely did not appeal to us (considering the clientele they’re trying to reach).  So, we decided to explore the rest of the wing.

Since Metropark isn’t slated to open until May, we really struggled to find things to do in this new section.  If you’re a guy and your girl brings you along to this section of the mall, here’s a primer on things you can enjoy in the meantime.

    img_4785.jpg

The first stop was Williams-Sonoma.  Of course, the kitchen gadgets are dope and, for some reason, Lofa went on a question spree asking about kitchen towels.  Don’t ask, you just had to be there.  Anyway, I dunno if it was the store remodel or because the store is in a bigger spot, but we defnitely felt the lack of food found in the store.
Kinda disturbing.  But, to make up for it, we found this:

    img_4787.jpg

Creme Brulee Torch? Butane powered?  Word.

After another couple of stores where we wadered aorund, we happened upon Design Within Reach.  It’s there that we found the ultimate…

    img_4788.jpg

    img_4789.jpg

The Aeron Chair. The ultimate in high-end pimp office accesories.  Remember, save your money and go buy Lofa this chair (because I’m not gonna pony up the cash for this one).  In black.  Size C.  Or you could buy his plane fare and accommodations to ComicCon.  They’re around the same price.

    img_4790.jpg

So, to review: if you’re a guy, outside of the XBOX 360 in the dressing room, Design Within Reach and, perhaps, Williams-Sonoma, you’re best bet is to have an iPod, DS, or PSP handy, because the girl will go nuts.  The dope girls stuff outnumbers the dope guys stuff by at least 3 to 1 here.  It goes down to 2 to 1 if you’re the type to rock the hella trendy metrosexual type gear.  There’s a couple stores full of that, plus the Nordstrom “urban” section is full of that steez (Ed Hardy, expensive denim, and tight fitting shirts).

That number will change once Metropark opens up, but still… not enough.

This one was designed or the female fashionista with money to burn.  And it’ll look like it will stay that way.  Guys, stick with the corner of the mall that has BR/Footlocker/T&C/GAP/AE in it or the opposite side of the mall that has the Apple Store/Shirokiya/A&F/PacSun/Blue Hawaii in it.

But, I suggest giving it a couple of months… wait for all the shops to open up and revisit.  There’s heavy money invested in this, and so far, it looks like it might pay off… if the right people come to it.

Shop*a*lea this week at Ala Moana

    shop-a-lea-february-honolulu-magezine.jpg

Today starts the biggest shopping event that’s ever been seen in the history of Ala Moana.  The event, which runs today until next Sunday, will feature demonstrations and personal appearances by fashion gurus and celebrity chefs, as well as giveaway aplenty throughout the next week.

The crown jewel of the event is the grand opening of Nordstrom (aka that huge structre they’ve been building on Kapiolani) and a slew of other stores.  I’m perosnally stoked that they’ve decided to bring in a Metropark to liven up the shopping atmosphere at Ala Moana.  It’s still shopping inside of a mall, but it’ll be a lot more lively.

The list of events can be found here.

For more information on the event, check out the shop*a*lea website.
