First Saturday Book Sale at Bill’s Bookmobile

This Saturday is the first Saturday in April and there’s this little product that’s releasing that’s supposed to revolutionize the way you read books. It’s about the size of a magazine and has an app that can access an online bookstore.  It’s revolutionary, magical, and everyone seems to be hyped for this new, digital way to read books…

… but what if you’re in the mood for traditional, analog books?  Well, the Friends of the Library of Hawaii are holding their First Saturday book sale at Bill’s Bookmobile to help feed your need for the feel of paper.  The bookmobile will be rocking tons of books in there, ranging from military history and cooking, to gardening, hobby, and children’s books.

They’ll also have tons of novels available too. And no, not just the ones that got turned into movies.

The First Saturday sale goes down this Saturday at Bill Bookmobile, which will be parked at 690 Pohukaina Street in downtown Kaka’ako.  If the address is unfamiliar, just head around the corner from the Fisher Hawaii in town.  All proceeds from the books, music, and movies sold at the sale will benefit Hawaii’s public libraries.

So, head out there, buy a book (or a movie) and support the sanctuary of knowledge in Hawaii.

    Flying Coffin Spring 2010

Live from the 206 is a new collection of fresh Flying Coffin gear.  Flying in just a tad bit later than usual, these pieces compliment the chilled weather and relaxed lifestyle that is affecting the majority of the country right now.

The use of bold graphics and subtle color palettes is offset but the usage of bright colors to create a dichotomy that is signature Flying Coffin.

The Coaches jacket, horizontal striped hoodie and dotted pocket tee are just some of the highlights of this very strong Spring lineup.  So strong, in fact, that some of the pieces are close to selling out, even before the line was fully released.

To get on this and to get your share before it disappears, check out http://www.flyingcoffin.com

    Beat Root 2010 Grand Championships

    It’s that time…

In 2009, the Beat Root Producers beat battle held their version of a year long elimination tournament to decide who’s the dopest producer in Hawaii.  In the end, Ely, TKO, Chris I, Devious, DJah, and Earwig Origami made it through the battles and have reached the pinnacle.  This Saturday, they’ll duke it out for the Grand Championship.  The winner of this battle joins Ques and Laels Beats as a Beat Root Grand Champion.

Alongside of the big battle, Joe Dub, Sentr1c, NoMasterBacks, Joe Gosalvez, Oliver Twist, DJ Observ and KTC will be performing throughout the evening.  Philippe Anthony will also be rocking the live painting tip.

This all goes down this Saturday night at the Fresh Cafe Warehouse.  Doors open at 9pm for those 18+.  It’s $7 for 18+, $5 for 21+.

NEW! Fitted Hawaii “Islanders” x Aloha Orange Snapback

As a Giants fan, I can’t tell you how STOKED I am about this Saturday’s release.  Opening day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate than with this pair from the Fitted Ohana.

First up is a remix of their classic “Islanders” shirt that they released a while back.  The original one was done up in the Les Murakami colorway, this time, they’re rocking Tim Lincecum white/black/orange.  It’s even done up in Giants font, for extra dopeness.

Alongside of that, there’s an Orange Aloha snapback, featuring the ALOHA embroidery done up in orange on a black snapback cap and white snaps.

Both of these would go extra hard with those new Nike Lunar Kayoss trainers. Not sayin’… I’m just sayin’…

These release TOMORROW (Saturday) at the Kona St. headquarters.  For more info, check out http://www.fittedhawaii.com

AFRA the Human Beatbox and DJ Sancon

Good Life Entertainment is bringing down two of Tokyo’s next level performers when AFRA the Human Beatbox and DJ Sancon will be coming out for two shows at Lotus Soundbar.  He’ll be bringing that NYC influenced Tokyo hip-hop flavor Friday night at 9pm and Saturday night at 6pm.

The Friday night show is 18+, the Saturday night show is all ages.  So, check out the most underrepresented element of hip-hop (in my opinion) this weekend.  Tickets to the show can be picked up at 88 Tees on kalakaua, Limited Addiction on DIllingham, Dig Lifetyles at Ward Warehouse, and Prototype at Pearlridge and Ala Moana.

And for those that don’t know about AFRA, get familiar:
