    Hallowbaloo Music + Arts Festival

    flyerb_web_halllowbaloo2009

As if Chinatown couldn’t get any more nuttier on Halloween, there’s an all out attack on your senses going on this Saturday night.

Hallowbaloo is a music and arts festival spanning the length of Nu’uanu Avenue and all throughout Chinatown.  Art will be up in the streets, performers will be littered throughout Chinatown on various stages and clubs.  Some of the highlights include Doolin Rakes at 6:30pm on the street, DJ ESKAE at 9pm on the street and 11pm at Indigo, The Deadbeats at SOHO at 10:30pm, URSULA 1000 at Indigo at 10:30pm, then at the LOFT at 12:30pm, and mixtape king DJ BENZI at NextDoor at 11:30pm.

This is gonna be an action packed night of entertainment.  Did I also mention that there’s gonna be thousands of people roaming the streets in costume? Yeah, that’s gonna add an interesting wrinkle to this event.

This all goes down this Saturday night all throughout Chinatown. $10 wristbands will be available on site and that one wristband will get you into all venues that evening. So, come out and get there early. Last year, over 8000 people crowded the Chinatown streets for the inaugural festival. That number is expected to jump to over 10,000 this year.

For more info and to check out the FULL lineup, hit up http://www.hallowbaloo.com

Night of the Living Halloween Hip-Hop Jam

    31jam-1

Halloween was made for all ages: candy, trick or treating, walking around in a fly costume. So, KUGA decided to take that feeling one step further with “The Night of the Living Halloween Jam.”

This event is an alcohol and drug free event featuring b-boy, art stations, live performances, a costume contest, and free candy.  Also, the hook for this event is a 2×2 b-boy battle… in costume.

Yes, costumes are REQUIRED for this battle, so it should be interesting to see who can rep the hardest while looking like Russell from UP (yes, that’s a last-minute costume suggestion, if you need one).

This all goes down this Friday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Gym in Kauai.  Doors open at 5:30pm and it’s $3 for ages 12 and under, $5 for everyone else.

For more info, check out http://www.kuga808.com

NEW! Olde Ivory “Ala Wai Canal Rats”

    4049660172_af86041448_o

The first in a series of shirts from the Olde Ivory Anchor League, this one is a shout out to the monsters of the Ala Wai… no not the giant crustaceans that inhabit the bottom of the canal, but the other monsters of the canal: the rats.

Have you seen these things? They give NYC street rats some hard rubs and these suckers got skill like Master Splinter. Watch your back or they’re taking a piece out of it.

Anyway, this new design celebrates the monsters in a fun and enjoyable way, minus the possible chance of disease.  These shirts also incorporate Olde Ivory’s new comfy fit technology shirts.  FInally, science gets something right.

These new shirts are available NOW in the Olde Ivory online shop and on Thursday at in4mation Ward.

    NEW! Fitted Hawaii “Pacific Vibrations”

Another Tuesday, another dope Fitted Hawaii release.

This week’s drop is very timely, with all the crazy weather happening.  The shirt is a tribute to the classic Joy Division “Unknown Pleasures” album cover.  The design is the same, but with the the words “Pacific Vibrations” hitting up the bottom and Los Angeles, San Francisco and Hawaii tagging the bottom.

Why those three? Besides the fact that all three sit on the same tectonic plate, but they also share the same culture, foods, and ethnic groups.

Alongside with this shirt release, there’s also a Dodgers and Giants hat release as well.  Giants custom in all red with a white brim. Dodgers piece in classic Dodger blue with white logo.

This drops today at the Kona St. location at 11am. For more info, check out http://www.fittedhawaii.com

The Legends of Hip-Hop: Masquerade Ball 2009

    thelegendsofhiphopmasqueradeball2009

This week will be a non-stop stream of Halloween events because, well, it’s not often that Halloween falls on a Saturday.  So, look for tons of things to be going down this Saturday.  The first of the “official” things found to be going down this Saturday is this event featuring two legendary hip-hop icons: Public Enemy and MC Lyte.

This is also gonna be a masquerade ball, so don’t forget to be rocking your costume, as there’s apparently a $300 costume contest going on.

Besides the two main acts, look for music from DJ Ready Red, formerly of the Geto Boys.

This all goes down this Saturday night at Pipeline Cafe.  Doors open at 8pm. For more info, email jedroa@yahoo.com or call 808-589-1999.
