Hawaii Statehood Stamp by Herb Kane

1248169403_752732bTomorrow marks 50 years of Statehood for Hawaii.

To celebrate, the Postal Service (the actual Postal Service, not the band) will issue this new commemorative stamp to all post offices nationwide starting Friday, August 21.

The stamp, which features a longboard surfer and canoe paddlers will be available for purchase at the Hawaii Convention Center during the Hawaii Statehood Conference.

At 10:15am Hawaii time, Daryl Ishizaki, USPS Honolulu District Manager, and Governor Linda Lingle will display an oversized image of the stamp at the Convention Center and introduce it to the world.

This will be available at all Post Office locations and at the Convention Center.

    16th Annual Sunburn Classic

    2009_sunburn_classic

Unfortunately kids, the end of Summer is drawing near. But, the summer doesn’t have to end on a whimper, but with a bang.

The biggest skate contest/demo in Hawaii will be going down this Saturday at A’ala Park.  The T&C Sunburn Classic will bring together pros and amateurs in one dope location to celebrate the awesomeness of Summer.

The amateurs will be battling in the “Best Trick” Amateur contest in four different divisions. The pros are actually talking about three members of the LRG Skate Team: Adelmo Jr., Jack Curtin, and Rodrigo Tx.

Don’t forget the product toss and music from lightsleeper Kavet the Catalyst.

It’s a skate contest, so look to be there around 8am if you plan on entering, 9am if you plan on watching.

It’s almost the end of Summer, enjoi the nice weather while you still can.

Ala Moana Center Keepsake Postcard and Stamp

    Picture 2

Did you know Ala Moana Center turned 50 this year?

    Yeah, me neither.

But, to correspond with the celebration that’s been going on and will continue to go on for the rest of the month, you can scoop up this free postcard commemorating the occasion. For a $1, you can even get the postcard with the appropriate postage cancellation stamp.

This Friday, the Post Office will be rocking the stamps from 4-6pm on Centerstage. They’ll stamp anything with the appropriate First Class postage with the cancellation stamp, even some past due bills. But, you probably wouldn’t want to do that.

For more info on the 50th Anniversary celebrations, check out the Ala Moana website.
