atypicalLIVING covers: Beat Root Grand Championship

Shouts out to Laels Beats for bringing the title home last night. The Beat Root veteran won the prestigious Beat Root Grand Championship at The Loft, joining Ques? as the only winners of the King of Kings battle. Laels came back after being defeated by The Hap in the first round, beating Kazu the Gonzo and OSNA in the Sudden Death Round. beating TKO in the Semis and the taking out DJAH in a very heated Final Round.

Might have to double check with Kavet, but I don’t recall someone coming from the Sudden Death Round to win the whole thing.

And Laels DESTROYED with his last beat. This amazing mash up of soul, hip-hop and Drum & Bass (!) that was simply genius.

So, big ups to Laels for winning the battle and to all the sponsors: Easy Music Center, Slapp Symphony, lightsleepers, genuineHI, atypicalLIVING (hey, that’s us!), FuManChu Clothing, in4mation, Prolifik, Redefine, Contrast Magazine and Incase.

    NEW! Star-Bulletin coming out today

So, swing by one of those bright blue boxes today and scoop up a copy of the NEW! Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The big deal here is the change in format. Not only is Hawaii’s oldest newspaper switching up to a smaller, tabloid-style size format, but also publishing a Morning Edition as well.

Though most people are against it, I kinda like the new format, as it’s easier to pack a paper into a backpack now with the smaller size.  I do like the commercial, as it features Honolulu nightlife veteran – and the main homie – Jason aka @sonecessary rockin’ that thing for In The Mix in the HI Life Section.

So, check out the paper, grab one from that box on the corner and SUPPORT QUALITY JOURNALISM, which, sad to say, is lacking in today’s society.
