In Hawaii, we celebrate Fat Tuesday, but we go about it in a different way.

Fat Tuesday is the day before the beginning of the Catholic season of Lent.  Usually, for Lent, people give up indulgent foods for the 40 Days.  That includes malasadas, the fried, sugar coated puff bread pastry of Portuguese origin that’s a locals favorite.  So, as tradition, Leonard’s – the purveyors of such delectable creations – has always designated the the day before Ash Wednesday as “Happy Malasada Day.”

So, get all happy go lucky and scarf down a dozen or so of these things before it’s no go starting on Wednesday.

You can find all the Leonard’s locations here.
