    NEW! Fitted Hawaii “Ku’i-A-Lua”

    homegrown-hoody-blog-2

    homegrown-hoody-blog

Another Saturday, another Fitted Hawaii release.

This one is pretty significant, as this also comes out on the same day as the highly anticipated BJ Penn/ Georges St. Pierre fight in Las Vegas for UFC 94.

So, to bring pride to Hawaii, the Fitted crew is bringing three new releases to the masses.

Kui-A-Lua is a reference to the hand-to-hand combat that the early Hawaiian (and even modern Hawaiians) use to represent the pride to their deity, in their culture and in themselves.  Of course, what a better analogy for Hawaii’s modern day warrior, BJ Penn, as he heads into the octagon for battle.

This release is actually three different pieces: first up is a kelly green shirt with a tonal double F logo all over the front and the Fitted crown on the back hit.

Next in the set is a paper/woven Kamehameha Fitted.  Similar to the tan “Lauhala” piece last year, except this time, there’s a black crown, gold Kamehameha logo, white eyelets, a green brim to match the shirt, and red underbill.  Also, like the “Lauhala,” there is a gold satin lining with the Hawaiian weapons print all over.

Finally, there’s another hoodie out there for the heads to bundle up in this cold weather.  The classic “Home Grown” print on the back of an all black hoodie, two pockets on the front and a white Fitted crest on the front.

All three piece release this Saturday morning at 11am.  As always, it’s first come, first served for these types of releases.  Also, please kokua and if you plan on coming early, park at Ala Moana and walk across the street.

For more, check out Fitted Hawaii.

    Swap and Bop Party

    swapandbop2009-01-31

What the heck is a swap and bop?

Well, 808 Wonderland and Mercury Bar is ready to set that definition with the “Swap and Bop” party this Saturday night.  The premise is simple: come in with one outfit, leave with another. How does that happen, well, every few minutes or so, a siren will sound… when the siren blares, you must switch an article of clothing with someone.  So, if you see someone that has a cool shirt on, you have every right to swap shirts with that person.  SOunds fun, but, with me being a robust human, I doubt there will be many people for me to switch clothes with on that night.

If you run into that problem, never to fear, because there is also an immunity bracelet that you cna purchase to make sure that brand new jacket you bought goes home with you at the end of the night.

So, it goes without saying that you probably want to wear clothes that you don’t mind parting with.  As an added bonus, you can bring those extra clothes that you don’t mind parting with and donate them at the door to H-5 (Hawaii Helping the Hungry Have Hope) for a discount at the door.

The Swap and Bop party goes down this Saturday night at Mercury Bar, starting at 9pm.  It’s $10 at the door, $8 if you bring a clothing donation and $15 if you want the immunity bracelet.

For more info, check out the Swap and Bop MySpace page.

Super Bowl 43: Cardinals vs. Steelers

    sb43_mark

As if you didn’t need to know about the Super Bowl being played on Sunday.

It’s the Arizona Cardinals vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in Tampa. Vegas says the Steelers by 6.5, but all the focus is on Arizona.  And for good reason, as it seems to be the trend in sports where the lovable losers and the underdogs get a chance in the big moment.  Even the past World Series was a testament to that trend, as the lovable loser Tampa Bay Rays took on the underdog Philadelphia Phillies.

My money is on the Cardinals because of the high flying offense, the resurrection of Kurt Warner, the emergence of Larry Fitzgerald as the best receiver in football, and the aforementioned lovable loser/underdog status.

The 43rd Super Bowl is on NBC.  What time does it start? Just tune in sometime Sunday morning, some pre-game show should be on by then.

BJ Penn vs Georges St. Pierre 2 – UFC 94

    bh_bjtrunk_111908-0091

I just needed an excuse to post up these dope BJ Penn x RVCA fight trunks.

This weekend is poised to be huge for sports fans. Not only do you have the biggest game in the world being played not named the World Cup, but you have the biggest rematch in MMA right now.

BJ Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre, part 2. Don’t think I need to write more about that.

The undercard, however, is pretty bananas as well. Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva put their undefeated records on the line in the co-main event; Stephan Bonner and Jon Jones are also putting their undefeated records on the line against each other.  Also on the card is Clay Guida taking on Nate Diaz and Karo Parisyan taking on Dong Hyun Kim.

UFC 94 goes down this Saturday (10pm EST/7pm PST/ 5pm HST) on Pay-Per-View.  You can check it out on PPV or via Yahoo! Sports

    Ozomatli in Concert

    ozomatli

LA-based Latin-funk-rock-hip hop-fusion band Ozomatli will be rocking a show in Hawaii this weekend.  And yes, there’s that many hyphens in their band description.

They’ve always been the chief party rockers for the LA scene and have garnered attention for their contribution to the Obama compilation Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement.  They’ve also been designated as US State Department Cultural Embassadors.  Not too shabby for a group of guys sprung out of LA’s Peace Center.

What will make this performance  even more epic is the fact that they’ll be reunited with former Jurassic 5 and original Ozomatli MC Chali 2na.  So, this party will be hype for serious.

To be a part of that party, you can check out the show this Saturday at the Waterfront at Aloha Tower.  Show starts at 7:30pm and is strictly for 21+ peoples.  Tickets are $25 and can be had at http://www.ticketweb.com

Also, please take note of your ticket number. 198 tickets were stolen from the venue last week, so ticket numbers 1003-1200 will not be honored at the door.

    Olde Ivory Spring mixtape

    3233333296_505e084b4a

OK, I know what you’re thinking: why would I want to listen to a mixtape from a clothing line?

Well, their reasoning (which I think is pretty good) is why should you look at pictures of their Spring Line when you can hear what it looks like, which is what kid a.nonymous does with this mix.

It features a whole bunch of throwback tracks, including one of my favorites: Blur- Coffee and TV.  For that one song alone should be worth the price you pay for this.

Fortunately, this mixtape is free!  You can download that HERE.

You can check out Olde Ivory on their website HERE.
