    Hawaii Winter Baseball: Week 02

Kala Ka'aihue homers twice on Sunday to power the 1st place Sharks over the defending champs, 6-3

Kala Ka'aihue hits 2HRs to power the 1st place Sharks over the Honu, 6-3

It’s Monday morning and it’s time for your atypicalLIVING Hawaii Winter Baseball wrap-up.

Kala Ka’aihue is tied for the league lead for homeruns.  His power surge is powering the Honolulu Sharks to the best record in the league.  This weekend, he hit another two homers in a 6-3 win over the defending league champions, North Shore Honu.  They’re completely killing the league, as they’re the only team over .500, everyone else is just beating each other up.

    The updated standings:

    • Honolulu Sharks: 10-3
    • Waipahu CaneFires: 6-7
    • Waikiki BeachBoys: 6-7
    • North Shore Honu: 4-9

The season is a little more than a 1/4 of the way done, and it already looks like the Sharks are the class of the league.  The defending champs need ot get it in gear if they’re gonna have a chance to defend the title and the CaneFires are finally getting out of the slums of the league and emerging as the second best team in this very competitive 2008 Hawaii Winter Baseball season.

As is customary, Monday is the off day for the league, with action resuming tomorrow at both Les Murakami Stadium in Manoa and Hans L’Orange Field in Waipahu.  This week’s midweek 3-game series pits the Sharks against the CaneFires and the Honu vs. the BeachBoys.  The midweek series take place at hans L’Orange Field.

The weekend series has the Sharks and BeachBoys at Les Murakami Stadium and the Honu vs the CaneFires at Hans L’Orange.  Don’t forget to bring along a radio (or Hele Wireless-equipped laptop) with you as ESPN 1420 will be broadcasting play-by-play for the Honu/BeachBoys games during the week and the Sharks/BeachBoys games during the weekend.

This weekend’s special event is sponsored by Ben Franklin Crafts.  They’ll be providing a Baseball Card booth, where you can dress up in an HWB uniform and pose for your very own baseball card.  The baseball card booth will be happening at the BeackBoys/Sharks game this Saturday night at Les Murakami Stadium.  Game starts at 7PM, so get there early to pose for you card before the game starts.

That will do it for this week’s atypicalLIVING Hawaii Winter Baseball wrap-up.  Join us every Monday for the HWB Weekly Wrap-Up, as we bring you the week that was in Hawaii Winter Baseball.

For more info, ticket sales, a full schedule of games, and HWB merchandise, check out the Hawaii Winter Baseball Website.

NEW! Prototype UH crackle New Era

The Prototype Ops guys (Danny, G. Cook, Kevin, and Chris) are the biggest football heads that I know out there.  I don’t think you can deny how much of a football fan (or baseball, for that matter) that these guys are.  So, it’s just appropriate that these guys are pushing the envelope of UH Warriors fashion.  This is just one example of it.

Running off of the Prototype crackle logo shirt they put out there a little while back, this hat takes the same Jordan 3/elephant/crackle print and applies it to the New Era. And it’s not just any crackle, but 3M Reflective crackle.  Very official.  Throw that on a black 5950 with a black/silver logo and red accents and underbill, and you got one super official New Era.

Check out this flick of groundUP leader nBOSS rocking the 5950:

You can scoop up this dope New Era at Prototype in Pearlridge.

BTW, Go BOWS! vs. Boise State this weekend.  Big ups to Coach Mac and the linebacking corps.

    “Dirty Hands” at HIFF

Dirty Hands: The Art and Crimes of David Choe is one of the headlining films at this year’s Louis Vuitton Hawaii International FIlm Festival.  The film, which covers David’s life, times, influences, style, imprisonment, and eventual resurgence is an amazing film that all art-types should catch.

The film is showing tonight at 9PM and Wednesday night at 7PM.  Both shows will be at the Regal Dole Cannery 18.  Be sure to catch one of those showings.

On Tuesday, be sure to catch a special meet and greet with David and the RVCA crew at Blue Hawaii Surf’s Kalihi showroom.  The event is from 6PM-9PM.  It’s free and open to the public, so swing by and say “Aloha” to David.

For more, check out the Blue Hawaii Surf website.
