    808 Urban presents: HiStory

808 Urban is a non-profit organization committed to supporting the urban art scene in Hawaii by providing local youth a place to express themselves artistically through the four elements of hip-hop.

Their first step in this direction is the HiStory event, a six-month series of events that will pare down the potential of the youth into a competition to find out who’s the dopest in Hawaii.

The first event, scheduled for noon today at Palama Settlement on North Vineyard Street, will feature a B-Boy crew battle (8 member max), both a DJ and MC Battle, and a graff battle featuring an assortment of disciplines.

Those under 17 are encouraged to participate and test their skills against their peers.

Entry is $5 for adults, $3 with a flyer and those under 17 are admitted free with a school ID.  This is scheduled to run from 12pm-5pm, so there’s plenty of time to get this in and make it to that barbecue you got going on later in the day, or to the Creed Chameleon album release party.

For more, check out 808 Urban.

NEW! Fitted Hawaii “Ho’o Mano” Tiger Shark Pack

Seriously, Fitted Hawaii is taking this back to school thing seriously, as this is their third drop of the week.  This one is a bit special, as this is based off the fearsome Tiger Shark.  The pack, dubbed “Ho’o Mano” means “to behave like a shark, to pursue women ardently.”

This pack consists of a shirt and brand new H New Era, similar to the ‘Ele ‘Ele drop.  The New Era features a woven linen crown in tan and teal hits on the logo, underbill, Fitted crown on the side and the sweatband.  The true beauty of the hat lies on the lining, as it is satin lined with a print of the State Seal of Hawaii on the interior.

The shirt is equally as impressive, with teal tiger shark print lining the sides and the Fitted crown emblazoned on the back in yellow and teal.  The crown has a bite taken out of it, tying back to the tiger shark theme.

The shirt is limited to 80 pieces and the hat limited to 100, so if you wanna get up on this, be prepared to battle it out.  As always, phone orders will be taken after 12pm on remaining stock.

The pack is set to release this Saturday at 11am.  So get a move on and make sure you go get it, because this one is going fast.

For more info, check out Fitted Hawaii.

    The Nike+ Human Race

This Saturday, the entire Nike+ community will join together and their distance logged that day will be counted and used to benefit one of three different charities: Lance Armstrong’s LIVEstrong Foundation, ninemillion.org, the United Nation’s refugee agency, or the World Wildlife Fund.

This is also an event where Nike has sponsored several city races worldwide, where a majority of the miles will be tabulated.  If you happen to be living in one of those cities, it’s highly encouraged to check out the city race.

Don’t live near one of the city races? Not to worry, as those equipped with Nike+ sensors on their shoes and iPods can participate and have their miles logged in during the day.

This event is free to join and is going to benefit one of three great causes.  Just sign up for the Human Race 10K before tomorrow at the Nike+ website.

While you’re there, you can read up on who people will be running on Saturday, what the causes are doing to help support this event, and also, you can join the country challenge, as runners will represent their home contry and race to see who can rack up the most distance.

It’s a fun event that gets you out of the house, on your feet, and benefitting a worthy cause.  So, go out there, sign up, and run around for a bit.  Every step counts.

Five to Nine / SOUL CLAP This Friday

thirtyninehotel has YOUR last Friday of the month covered.  For a while now, Eskae and his brand of partying has infiltrated and dominated Chinatown for over two years now.  Now, with his latest endeavor Five to Nine taking over, Eskae has now has your Pau Hana time covered as well.

So, in turn, you got the hours of 5pm-2am covered.  That’s a non stop celebration determined to finish off any month.

First up is the Eskae and AD2 Honolulu-sponsored Five to Nine. This party brings together Hawaii’s working class partiers for a little Pau Hana-tie-one-off-and-celebrate-Friday shindig.  The drink specials are copious, and so is the company.  So, if you work downtown, make your way over to thirtyninehotel for a little electric relaxation.

At 9pm, just as Five to Nine winds down, the current susperstar of Chinatown throwdowns, Soul Clap, begins it’s assault on the dancing shoes of the urban party-goer.  I exaggerate very little when I say that Soul Clap is easily the best party going on in Chinatown on any night, let alone the last Friday of the month.

So, get your homies together, email steve@djeskae.com to get your RSVP, and join the rest of Hawaii’s party people over at thirtyninehotel this Friday for two epic events that go well together.

For more info, check out DJ ESKAE.

Canned Food Drive party at 39Hotel feat. Roxy Cottontail/Compose/Eskae/Hot Muffins

We here at atypicalLIVING are all about helping the less fortunate, especially when it comes in the form of food.  Helping Hawaii’s hungry is a pet cause for us, so we’re always down to support those that can help get a homeless person a hot meal.  So, it comes as no surprise that we’re happy to report about this event going down this Saturday night at thirtyninehotel.

This Canned Food Drive party is going to benefit the Hawaii Food Bank and will feature the party rocking power of NYC’s own Roxy Cottontail, along with Nocturnal Sound Krew’s own DJs Compose and Eskae.  On top of all of that, is the hot quirkiness of Hot Muffins, rocking the spot.

This all goes down this Saturday night at thirtyninehotel.  It’s $12 at the door, but only $7 if you bring in 3 canned food items.  All items donate will go to benefit Hawaii’s hungry.  So, go out there and share the love, plus get a dope party out of it as well.

First, the shirt is printed on white and features the Fitted logo with the Palaka print fill.  The crown on the back is filled up in the same way.  The hat is equally as impressive, with a white crown, black pinstripes and kelly green bill and logo.

This one is slated to drop this Thursday at Fitted Hawaii on Kona Street.

As always, the same rules apply: first come, first served; phone orders taken after 12pm.

SIQ of Summer: Creed Chameleon release party

Creed Chameleon is celebrating the release of his new album the only way he knows how: throwing a huge party with everyone invited.

This one is called SIQ of Summer and is the official end of Summer/ Back to school / SIQ of Lazy album release party.  For those that haven’t been paying much attention, Creed will be dropping a gem of an album this Saturday at this party. Featuring guest appearances by Ion Mike, Meiso, Parlous, Mox, Krystyles, TKO, NoMasterBacks, Everybody Knows and I really can’t remember who else is on the album… but they’re probably dope, nonetheless… SIQ of Lazy is set to redefine the limits of Hawaii Hip-Hop.

I have a more thorough review of the album up on the Mister J: All Day site.

The event itself is going down this Saturday night at the E&O Trading Company on the third floor of Victoria Ward Center.  It’s going to feature appearances from such luminaries as The Perfect Median, NoMasterBacks, Bless’DChil’, Hunger Pains and many more.  Live painting will be done by Angry Woebots CkaweekS and DJs Revise and Packo will be blessing the tables.

Of course, the real headliner of this show is the man of the hour: Creed Chameleon, performing jams from his new album, which, if you’re one of the first 100 through the door, you can score a free copy.

This party is 21+ and there is a dress code in effect, so make sure you’re looking right.  Party starts at 9pm and rages until 2am.

For more info, check out SIQ Records.
