atypicalLIVING Covers… The (last) Next Movement
This edition of atypicalLIVING Covers… takes a look at the final Next Movement at Next Door.
For the past year, Jake “The Snake” Miyasato has been turning the downtown filmhouse into the mecca for Chinatown hipsters to get their monthly fix of fashion, music, and art. This event, which sprang forth from Jake’s earlier efforts on the UH-Manoa campus, quickly became the destination for Hawaii’s social elite to see and be seen. And, we’re sad to see it go. But, it didn’t go down with a whimper.
The genuineHI crew cranked back and unleashed the magic one last time on the hipsters and socialites alike. The room began to shake with the sounds of DJ Mr. Nick and DJ Fame. Then the roof got blown off by the sonic fury of the combined forces of the Perfect Median and DJ Bumblebee. Then the walls got blown off by the unmistakable flow of EMIRC, with DJ Jimmy Taco kicking down the door. Finally, the combined efforts of The Street Society and a collective of UH and HCC students brought the house down.
This was definitely an epic event and one that will be missed. Congrats and GOOD LUCK to Jake as he embarks on his career with Boeing. Hopefully, he can link up with atypicalLIVING’s Northwest crew and continue to make the Next Movement happen up there. I know it was said earlier in the event post, but we feel like we’re watching our brother move up and out, since both atypicalLIVING and genuineHI both got started up around the same time. We’ll miss the homie Jake, but know that… he’ll be back.
