Throwback Thursday

Dig Lifestyles and the Nocturnal Sound Krew present “illmatic,” a night dedicated to the golden era of hip-hop known at the early 90s.  The night will feature the Honolulu Bird Gang throwing down all the classics from back in the day.

So, if you want to catch up on some nostalgia, I suggest making your way down to Next Door tonight and feeding off the vibe of the 90s in the air.

“Illmatic” goes down around 9PM, $10 at the door.  21+ is suggested.

Soul Clap This Friday Night

It’s the final Friday of the month and that means only one thing: Soul Clap at thirtyninehotel.

The monthly after-hours throwdown, hosted by DJ Eskae of the Nocturnal Sound Krew, has grown in size and following the past couple of months to become the spot to go to every last Friday night.  So, be there and experience the dopest music, the freshest atmosphere and the chill people of Soul Clap.

genuineHI presents: The Next Movement – April edition

It’s the final Saturday of the month, so that means only one thing: Next Movement at Next Door.

Jake the Snake and the genuineHI crew brings you the dopest Saturday monthly on the island, mixing together a delicious concoction of art, music, and fashion to the masses of Hawaii.

This month’s edition is no different, as it brings together the music of Hunger Pains and combines it with the fashion of The Butik, SewCEREAL, and Hiromi Tsuchiya. The live art entree will be provided by Fern. The musical appetizer is provided by the one and only Cookiehead Jenkins and the irrepressible DJ Mr. Nick.

As always, the Next Movement gets served piping hot on the final Saturday of the month at Next Door (43 Hotel St.). Doors open at 9pm and keeps it going until 2am. Tickets are $5 presale and $10 at the door. The party is 21+, so if you can’t get down with Michael Jackson or order a Samuel Jackson, I suggest you stay home for this one.

The Love Movement featuring the work of Shaun Castro

This Saturday marks the first ever solo art show for Shaun Castro. The lightsleeper/groundUP pirate/Prolifik designer will be bringing his unique blend of classical and urban styles to the walls of Prototype this Saturday night. The show will also be the launch of a special edition wallet Shaun did with Poketo. Look for the wallet at the show and bring some cash, as this wallet will go quickly.

Shaun’s art showcases his combined experiences of being a conflicted youth, a redeemed by faith Christian, and an artist that is revered by many around the world. Be there to see the combination of all three in one spot.

The Love Movement starts 5pm this Saturday night at Prototype and will continue until May 26th. Consider this a primer to the Next Movement later on in the evening.

Shaun has been down with atypicalLIVING since day zero, so I’m personally stoked to see Shaun getting some shine on a solo level.

NEW! Kabuki Inspired Cryptonauts

The Professor Aaron Lee is back with some new Cryptonauts, ready for adoption.  The special thing about these Cryptonauts are that they are inspired by Kabuki Masks.  Very fresh.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Cryptonauts out at a groundUP show, then you should know that these things are very well made and the quality and time put into these things are amazing.  I have one and I can say that these are pretty much the real deal.

One thing to keep in mind is that these are built a bit bigger than your normal Cryptonauts, so if you have a special place reserved for them, might want to make it a bit bigger.
