Planet B-Boy at Academy of Arts

The rumblings are true: Planet B-Boy, the hit film that was brought to Hawaii at last year’s IIFF will be making a return to the islands, courtesy of the groundUP Pirates and the Academy of Arts.

The screening will go down this Friday night at the Academy Of Arts.  There will be an open b-boy floor, for those interested, and a DJ to keep things moving.  There’s also word that writer/producer/editor/local boy Benson Lee will also be in attendance that night, so be prepared to talk shop with the man.

All this goes down 6pm this Friday night at the Academy of Arts on South Beretania St.

For more info on the movie, check out Planet B-Boy online.

The Hawaii Food Bank will be conducting their 19th Annual Food Drive this Saturday at locations statewide.  There will be various locations statewide where you can donate canned goods or money to help feed Hawaii’s hungry.

The Hawaii Food Bank has a top 5 list of things to donate if you are looking to donate canned goods.

    1. Canned Meats or Tuna
    2. Canned Meals (like spaghetti)
    3. Canned Soups
    4. Canned Vegetables
    5. Canned Fruits

Any of thse would make for a wonderful donation to make sure that the needy people of Hawaii don’t have to wander around, looking for their next meal.  It’s time to give back to the community, and what better way than to make sure that someone gets a nice meal out of it.

The statewide locations participating in the Food Drive include: Restaurant Row; Koko Marina Center; Town Center of Mililani; McCully Shopping Center; Pearl Highlands Shopping Center/Pearl City Shopping Center; Windward City Shopping Center; Waianae Mall Shopping Center; Waiokeola Congregational Church, Kahala; Neighbor Island Locations; Various Military Locations

    Kawaii-Kon this weekend

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That really was Goku walking down the street with the Fullmetal Alchemist.

The show of shows, Kawaii-Kon, is back for another installment. The Hawaii Convention Center will be teeming with anime enthusiasts, collectors of all shapes and sizes and more Cosplay than I would like to imagine in one setting. But, they’re having fun with it, so who am I to knock, really?

This year’s annual anime convention promises to be the biggest yet. They’ve got an action packed three days of booths, competitions and displays to keep even the most jaded anime fan enthralled for a few hours.

So, if you see tons of kids floating around Ala Moana this weekend with obscenely sized swords, you know why.

The convention starts this Friday at Noon and goes all weekend until Sunday at 4pm.

For more info on Kawaii-Kon, check out the Official Kawaii-Kon website.
