atypicalLIVING covers… Artist Proof: pancho x exclusive

This edition of atypicalLIVING covers… brings you coverage from the Pancho Abalos solo art show at exclusive. The art show illuminati was out in force, celebrating exclusive’s first big art show and Pancho’s body of work. KTC was right about this, Pancho has one of the last “characters” out there in the art world. The fact that the dinos are patterned after his kids make it even that much more meaningful.

Plus, being a shoe head doesn’t hurt, as the Jordans are in full effect there.

The art is no joke and the shirts were dope as well. I’ll be rocking mine hard this week, and I know those there will as well. Props to Pancho for the dope art and Christina for the dope event. Glad you were able to get out form behind the counter to schmooz it up for a bit.

groundUP crew was definitely in effect and the vibe was excellent. Don’t really know what else to say except check out the flicks on the atypicalFlickr and get jealous of the shirts, because they were mad limited. If you slept on the show, you may have slept on the shirts, because those things were flying out of there like hotcakes.

For more info, definitely check out Pancho’s myspace or exclusive’s website.

NEW! Fitted Hawaii “Pu’iwa” shirt/hat combo

Fitted Hawaii comes correct with their latest collabo effort.  This one is two-fold: first is the second in the last series ever of UH Custom Colors.  This time, they pay homage to the old gunslinger, Brett Farve, with a gold and green color scheme that screams “Take the leap!”

The second part… for those not from Hawaii, is going to need a little explaining… but in a nutshell, the shirt is nicknamed “Pu’iwa”, which roughly translated into “Shook Ones.”  The shirt is meant to symbolize the struggles and battles that Kamehameha encountered during his reign to unite the smaller kingdoms of Hawaii into one large kingdom.  This one battle, in particular, is the Battle of Nu’uanu.

The shirt is pretty much The King handling business, the way he always should.

The shirt and hat both drop tomorrow (Today, if you’re reading this on Saturday) at 1100am SHARP!  You know the rules by now: first come, first served… no phone orders until after 1200pm.

For more info, check out Fitted Hawaii’s website.

    Introducing… Miss Yumi

If you haven’t noticed by now, there’s a new logo out on the front page and on the masthead of the atypicalLIVING web site. Well, that was created by the very lovely Miss Yumi. Paris-born and Maryland-bred, Hawaii by nature, and currently rocking heads in Seattle, the multi-talented threat is set to take things over and… well, I’ll let her explain…

Miss Yumi has been on the run since December of 2005. She holds two passports and has gone under the names of Aeros, Ginny and SansSerif. Reports say that after attending the Maryland Institute College of Art (also known as MICA, in Baltimore, MD), she gained illustration, printmaking and painting skills and promptly flew over to the island of O’ahu to try her hand at surf, sun and relaxation. After a year in paradise, Miss Yumi returned to the Atlantic coast to pay her dues in New York City as an art director. Since then, she has returned to the Hawaiian islands to recuperate, but only to swindle her way to Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. It is believed that she is currently working down by the pier, designing collateral for Unicef. Sources say Miss Yumi may have a plan or two to head back to the Northeast within the year.
I don’t think there’s much more to say except to check out her site here and be on the lookout for the next collabo.
atypicalLIVING got mad love for Miss Yumi and wishes she would just relent and come back to Hawaii. In the meantime, good luck handling business and reppin’ Hawaii on the mainland.
